First explored by lumberjacks, the village was populated around 1907 thanks to the creation of Gouin Road and the passage of the railway. The municipality was first established in 1911, under the name of « Canton de Boyer-Partie-Ouest ». Bathed by the refreshing waters of Lake Allard, formerly known as Lake Saguay, it took its current name of Anishinaabeg origin in 1985.
